News from the Library:

Accelerated Reader

Dear Parents,

In an ongoing effort to inspire the love of reading in our children, we have changed the way that the students are rewarded for earning Accelerated Reader points.  We are creating an AR “store” that will allow students to spend their points on a variety of fun prizes.  Though the prizes may change slightly from quarter to quarter, here is a look at what your student can earn:

2nd Grade-  (10 points per quarter/ 40 points per year)

Level 1 = 10 points = Seasonal Treat Bag- something different every time!

Level 2 = 15 points = Paperback Book

Level 3 = 20 points = Scholastic Book Fair $5 Gift Certificate

Level 4 = 30 points = Homework or Assignment Pass (only certain   assignments will be eligible—to be determined by the homeroom teacher)

Level 5 = 40 points = Story & Snack with Mr. Perrini- your child will have the opportunity to be read to by Mr. Perrini during Library time and enjoy a special snack for the day.

Level 6 = 50 points = Dress Down (NUTS) Day—this will be on one designated day per quarter.  If your child “buys” a dress-down day a note will come home letting you know when it is.

Level 7 = 60 points = Movie and Snack After School with Mrs. Rainier-  one afternoon per quarter your child will be invited to join Mrs. Rainier in the Library for a fun movie and snack after school.   A note will come home letting you know the date and time.

Level 8 = 80 points = Year-end ice cream party (some time in late May)

The AR Store will be open once per quarter, approximately one week after the quarter ends.  Your child may come each time and spend their points or may save them up for something “BIG”.  They may also buy more than one prize if they have enough points.

We are all very excited about this new program and we hope the children will be excited too. You can check your child’s points at https://hosted223.renlearn.com/47922/HomeConnect/Login.aspx.  You can log in using the same login and password that your child uses at school.   Please let me know if you have any questions.

Kindly,

Mrs. Rainier, Librarian
