St. Anne School 2007 Teacher Of The Year

Louise Garrison

Thank You for your faithful service to our school.

I was very surprised to be told I was St.Anne’s Teacher of the Year. I think I am one of the luckiest people around. I love my job! I love getting up each morning and knowing I can come to school and teach kindergarten. St.Anne is a wonderful community of caring parents and teachers. My goals for kindergarten are:
1. each child will love school so much that they can hardly wait to get to first grade and
2. that each child will develop self control in their daily lives
3. each child will develop respect for their classmates.

Teachers at St.Anne are especially privileged to be able to teach about God. I enjoy being able to pray and model my faith with my students. This will be the 18th year I’ve taught at this school. The entire time the focus has never changed. We are a school that instills morals and teachings of Jesus to each child.

While Mrs. Mullinax is new to St. Anne School and this is her first year of teaching K4, Mrs. Mullinax is in her 36th year of teaching! Mrs. Mullinax received her B.S. and Masters in Education from Winthrop University. Mrs. Mullinax’s favorite thing about teaching K4 is watching the children’s faces light up when they de something or learn something new for the first time. Mrs. Mullinax grew up in a small South Carolina town called Cross Anchor, South Carolina. Knitting, reading and sewing are some of Mrs. Mullinax’s favorite hobbies.

Grade K5A - Therese Garcia-Solis /Loren Kennelly

Mrs. Solis joined St. Anne Catholic School from Miami, Florida where she was a first grade teacher. Mrs. Solis received her teaching degree from Barry University in Miami Florida and has been teaching since 1988. Mrs. Solis’ favorite thing about teaching kindergarten K5 are the smiles and hugs she receives daily along with being able to teach morals and having Jesus as the center of everything! "The children are like sponges" they learn so much everyday. Mrs. Solis is originally from Lebanon and when she is not teaching, she loves spending time with her family.

I love teaching Kindergarten at St. Anne School because of the children.  I look forward to getting up and coming to school each morning.  I do not know what my days would be like if they did not involve children.  Their smiling faces and gentle pokes (and sometimes not so gentle) keep me smiling, too.  I think Kindergarten is a step to loving school.  I have two goals for my students – learn self-control and have such a good time that they can hardly wait to get to first grade.

walser.gifGrade 1A - Lori Greene

I love teaching at St. Anne Catholic School because I can teach about faith -- faith in God, themselves and others.  By providing students with high academic standards and faith, we can prepare them for life.

garahan2.gifGrade 1B - Sue Garahan/Beverly Foundos

I love teaching at St. Anne Catholic School because of the support of the faculty, staff, and parents. I am glad to have the opportunity to share my faith with my students.

hinton.gifGrade 2A - Diane Hinton

What I love most about teaching at St. Anne School is the community.  Parents, teachers and staff share a common intention, quality education in a faith-filled atmosphere.  As a product of twelve years of Catholic schools, I want each and every child who walks through our doors to have the same experience I had. I was well prepared for higher education and my spirituality was nourished by those who lived the faith. The St. Anne School Community works together to accomplish that.

I have been blessed to be a part of the St. Anne School family as a parent and volunteer for several years while pursuing my teaching degree at Wingate Uninversity. I attended Catholic schools for 16 years and am excited to have the opportunity to educate my students both academically and spiritually.

pellett.gifGrade 3A - Jill Pellett

Mrs. Pellett is St. Anne School’s newest 3rd grade teacher! She received her teaching degree at Belmont Abbey College and has been teaching for 2 years.  Mrs. Pellet is from Charlotte, North Carolina and loves to work on her house when she is not busy creating her lessons and teaching. Mrs. Pellett loves teaching third grade because every day is different and 3rd grade students are so enthusiastic about learning.  She loves teaching at St. Anne School because the St. Anne Community is welcoming and helpful.  Her job is easier with such great students and fellow faculty and staff.

What I love most about working at St. Anne Catholic School is that I am a member of a great TEAM.  Teachers, parents and students work together to make St. Anne the great school it is.  I am proud to be working on this team.

Teaching religion has been good for me spiritually.  I have grown in my faith, and I love this environment.  It is also nice to have colleagues who help one another solve problems together.  The parents are very supportive of the teachers and quite involved in their children’s education.

vawter.gifGrade 4B - Jennifer Vawter

I am originally from Indiana where I taught for 3 years, 2 years in a Catholic school.  My family and I moved to Rock Hill in 2002.  I taught in a Charlotte public school for the last 3 years.  This is my first year at St. Anne School, and I am so excited to be back in Catholic Education.  I love teaching here.  I have never felt such a family atmosphere in a school.  I have received help from the parents and staff in my adjustment to a new school.  Third grade is my favorite grade to teach, because the students are learning independence and they love to learn.  My favorite part about teaching at St. Anne School is that I get to teach children about God and how God is so important to a child's success.

This is Ms. Kiernan’s first year of classroom instruction and she loves 7th grade!  They have a great love of learning and enjoy the challenge of experiments and other hands-on learning that encompasses their school days.  Ms. Kiernan enjoys reading and swimming.  Ms. Kiernan also assists in coaching the SAS Swim Team!

judge2.gifGrade 8 - Christina Judge

I love teaching history to middle school students because they become very intrigued by the larger world and have great curiosity about why the world is the way it is today.  I love teaching religion to eighth grade students because they have a beautiful faith relationship with God.  It is a gift to be able to share that relationship with them and to help them nurture it.  I love working at St. Anne Catholic School because there is such a strong sense of community.  We really see ourselves as part of a large family in which we share good times and bad, smiles and tears, failures and successes.

gantzer2.gif6th & 8th English - Gretchen Gantzer

I love teaching English at St. Anne School because God has provided me with a loving environment to repay Him with my time and talent.  My students return to me so much dedication and energy that I feel privileged to be able to encourage them to meet their potential in language arts.

leslie2.gif7th Math/Algebra - Lori Leslie

I love teaching at St. Anne Catholic School because the students are a joy.  The classes are small enough to give each student individual attention.  It is a safe place to teach and to learn.

I enjoy teaching band at Saint Anne because the students are so enthusiastic about what they are able to accomplish.  They enjoy coming together to make music and perform.  I especially love when they say "my friend (or my brother or sister) is in band and we practiced together last night!”

As a first year teacher, I am excited about working with the students and passing along to them some of what I have learned over the years. I have been associated with St Anne School in the past and look forward to making a contribution to its future success.

gantzer.gifLibrary - Gretchen Gantzer

Teaching library skills at St. Anne School is a mission of love.  The support of the administration, faculty and parents make the success of our library a continuing pleasure.  Introducing students to books and reading is a blessed vocation.

irmiter2.gifMusic - Kay Irmiter

I love teaching Music at St. Anne Catholic School because everyday I have the privilege of using my faith and my love of music to impact the lives of children.  What I love most about working at St. Anne Catholic School is seeing the children succeed and grow from K-4's who "experience" music into Middle Schoolers who perform music.  Watching a child learn to read music and then grow in confidence as they become performers is very rewarding.

fridie.gifPhysical Ed - Byron Fridie
