Academics by Grade
While St. Anne Catholic School's Kindergarten is a developmental program with an emphasis on hands-on learning, it is also a year filled with experiences that help children interact with each other, respect the rights of others, and accept authority outside the home. They learn to share, play fair, and accept responsibility for their actions. Teachers help the students develop these social and emotional attitudes necessary for future years of academic success. Students discover that Kindergarten is not only a time to learn to live with others and follow the Golden Rule, but also see that learning can be fun and exciting!
Religion — Through the I Am Special text, concepts taught include God Made Me Special, I Am Special to My Family and Friends, I Am Special to God Through Baptism, I Learn About God's Creation in All that I Experience Through My Senses, God's Plan for New Life in Spring, Feelings and Going to Church. Participation in religious activities such as: weekly mass, prayer services, and age-appropriate service projects help to plant the seeds of faith and community service early on.
Language Arts — Reading and writing is taught using Trophies. This series has materials such as big books, little books, stories on tape, songs, decodable books to take home, independent readers for the classroom, worksheets for the children, and many manipulatives to use in the classroom for pre-reading activities such as blending sounds. The children also have plenty of writing experiences including individual writing, making classroom books, and keeping a writing journal.
Math — Fundamental math concepts and problem solving skills are introduced and practiced daily. Pattern blocks, unit cubes, and other hands-on activities are used. These experiences provide opportunities for students to develop a sense of pattern, to sort and classify, to categorize, and to think logically, all of which are essential in the development of mathematical thinking. Other areas of concentration include place value, geometry, numbers and number sense, graphing, money, time, measurement, estimations, math games, and much more.
Science — In science, students experience the Father's loving plan for all creation through experiments, discussions, and group discussions. The students discover and learn to appreciate the beauty of god's creation as they learn about themselves, others, and our wonderful world. We help nurture children's natural curiosity as they explore the areas of earth, life, and physical science.
Social Studies — We introduce the children to citizenship, economics in terms of wants and needs, American symbols, maps, holidays, different communities, and the importance of rules in family, school, and community environments.
Science and Social Studies are integrated within our Religion and Language Arts Programs and supplemented with Kindergarten Weekly Studies.
