Middle School Religion

Middle School
6th Grade Religion
Religion is based on Old Testament Literature, with an emphasis on Judaic tradition. We use the Christ Our Life text, which connects many Hebrew Scripture accounts with Catholic doctrine on the nature and ancestry of Jesus, while also comparing Catholic and Christian tradition with morals and values present in the Old Testament books. Scripture, therefore, plays a prominent role. However, we also focus on feast days, traditions, prayer, devotions, and teachings that correlate with Church doctrine.

7th Grade Religion
The focus of seventh grade religion is the New Testament. More to come...

Middle School 8th Grade Religion
The religion curriculum of eighth grade is a study of the history of the Catholic faith. Beginning with the Old Testament to understand the roots of Christianity, the student will study the spread of the Church during the time of Jesus and the apostles, the early persecutions and famous martyrs, the Church’s response to heresies, the basic doctrines concerning Christ, the Trinity and Mary as the Mother of God, the Church as a temporal power, feudalism and the medieval church, the Crusades, the founding of religious orders, the preservation of art and education, the Protestant Reformation, missionary activity, the various Vatican councils, and the Church in South Carolina. There is emphasis on basic moral principles, the Christian obligation to seek justice for all people, and responsible citizenship.
